AMA Monster Energy Supercross season

The AMA Monster Energy Supercross season can be precarious.
Two-time series champion James Stewart will be racing for the first time in nearly a year. Two-time champion Chad Reed will be hoping to race a full season after suffering injuries and sickness last year for his new team.

About the only riders who came away from the 2010 supercross and motocross campaigns injury-free were reigning champion Ryan Dungey and Kevin Windham, who made a strong push at the finish of supercross last season after one of his patented slow starts.

Josh Grant, who won the Anaheim opener two years ago, returns after missing last season--Western Lites champion Jake Weimer, who has a broken arm.

The last Southern California race will be Feb. 19 at San Diego's Qualcomm Stadium. We've got titles, we've got all the stuff that goes with it. It is the reason people get excited when I race. There will be season-ending injuries. "If everybody stays healthy, it will be an unbelievable fight for so many guys," Short said. "People get hurt, but that is part of supercross.

With two-time champions James Stewart and Chad Reed sidelined with injuries, rookie Ryan Dungey won the nation's top-tier supercross championship last year.

2011 AMA Supercross season is shaping up to be one of the most highly anticipated in recent years. Suzuki's Ryan Dungey, with the number one plate, is certainly in the catbird seat coming into Anaheim.
